“Every day’s surface”, Arman Vahanyan – Basel, Switzerland
Opening of the solo exhibition “Every day’s surface”of the Armenian artist Arman Vahanyan at “Salon Mondial” (Atelier Mondial / Christoph Merian Stiftung), Basel, Switzerland, on Friday, March 31st at 6 p.m.
For the second time, the Armenian artists Arman Vahanyan (KulturDialog Armenien) was artist-in-residence of the international artists’ exchange program organized by Atelier Mondial (Christoph Merian Stiftung), Basel, Switzerland, Foundation KulturDialog Armenien (Yerevan, Armenia) and the Cultural Affairs Office of the City of Freiburg, Germany.
Since January 2017 Vahanyan spent three months in Basel on invitation by Atelier Mondial. Here, he was given the opportunity to work at the professional printing studio “druckwerk” with Marcel Mayer and Florian Dammeyer and he was able to broaden his knowledge of lithography printing techniques.
In his first solo exhibition in Switzerland, Vahanyan presents a retrospective of those lithographs he created during his stay in Basel, a linocut he did during his artist-in-residence stay at „Kunsthaus L6” at Freiburg in Breisgau, Germany, in November and December 2016, and a choice of offset lithographs he created during his artist-in-residence stay in Tallinn, Estonia in 2014. A large scale painting from his first artist-in-residence stay in Freiburg in Breisgau, Germany, in the first half of 2016 will round off this very individual artistic panorama.
The exhibition makes the surface the subject of discussion as its structure and quality are of great importance for every printmaking and painting artist. The audience will be given the possibility to gain a unique insight in the varied oeuvre of Arman Vahanyan and it may discover examples of current contemporary Armenian art in the field of printing and painting.
