Opening of the solo exhibition ‘Paper – Hand and Mind: Narrations in Art’ by the Swiss artist Therese Weber at the National Gallery of Armenia, Yerevan, Armenia, on June 15th, 2017 at 2 p.m., and official press conference of the exhibition at 1 p.m.
Foundation KulturDialog Armenien presents the large scale solo exhibition ‘Paper – Hand and Mind: Narrations in Art’ of the Swiss artist Therese Weber at the National Gallery of Armenia in Yerevan from June 15th to July 15th, 2017.
Therese Weber is one of the most important protagonists of ‘Paper Art’ and an acclaimed representative of the contemporary Swiss art scene. Based on her artistic research on paper, its creation and its tradition, she is mainly active in the field of pulp painting: For her works, Therese Weber creates paper thanks to hand-poured and hand coloured pulp (paper fibre) and combines paper as her particular creative medium with drawing, print making and photography to explore new dimensions.
Showcasing more than 50 works by Therese Weber, this comprehensive exhibition offers a complex and varied panorama of her oeuvre, and also of different techniques and approaches she used during the last 20 years. Therese Weber got in contact with Armenia in 2015 and has since then integrated Armenia, its heritage and its people in her works, in her narratives and her book projects.
It is a great honour for Foundation KulturDialog Armenien to cooperate with the artist Therese Weber in this ambitious and prestigious project which is a great chance for KulturDialgo Armenien to present outstanding contemporary Swiss art for the first time to the Armenian audience. It is the intention of Foundation KulturDialog Armenien to introduce artists, art lovers and all visitors of this exhibition in Yerevan to Therese Weber’s artistic approach, her visions and artistic projects, but most of all to an interesting and fascinating artist and to start a new artistic dialogue.
Foundation KulturDialog Armenien wishes to strengthen this dialogue by organizing two public events with the artist Therese Weber at the National Gallery of Armenia:
In her lecture “Die Sprache des Papiers” (The Language of Paper/lecture in German) on Saturday, June 17th at 2 p.m. Therese Weber will elaborate different aspects of her work and address paper as an artistic medium. The audience will then be given the opportunity to discuss with Therese Weber and Sona Harutyunyan in the context of a public artists’ talk on Tuesday, June 20th, 2017 at 2 p.m.
On the occasion of the solo exhibition ‘Paper – Hand and Mind: Narrations in Art’ in Yerevan, a comprehensive 160 pages oeuvre catalogue was published by the widely renown German publishing house Wienand (Cologne) specialized in publication of art books.
This trilingual and richly illustrated catalogue presents a detailed insight into Therese Weber’s works dating from 1995 to today thanks to 121 illustrations including also works exhibited in Yerevan. The reader is given the possibility to discover not only the art works and also the artist Therese Weber thanks to essays by the art historian and Founding President of Foundation KulturDialog Armenien Sona Harutyunyan, by the art historian and former director of Leopold Hoesch Museum in Düren (Germany), Dr. phil. Dorothea Eimert, by the cultural researcher Dr. phil. Christoph Baumer and by the artist Therese Weber herself.
The authors explain and analyse origins, motives and the background of Therese Weber’s work and her creativity to provide the reader and the visitor with aspects relevant to explore Therese Weber’s unique approach to paper and to her artistic and intercultural dialogue.
